For my second visit to this summit, I decided to try a different route, but still using the same start point, the car park at SO 252  284.  

From the car park I walked up stream for a few hundred metres, until I came to a rough stone track on my left, which runs all the way up to the dam at Grwyne Fawr reservoir (SO233 308).  A pleasant walk with a gentle gradient and great views of the valley.  As I approached the dam I could see that the over spill from the reservoir was frozen solid on the dam face. Luckily for me, the weather had warmed up considerably flowing the freezing temperatures and high winds of the previous few days. 

After crossing the dam I headed directly for the summit which was only another 2k away, with an accent of around 280m.

On arrival I was very pleased to find that the ankle deep mud Andy and I had encountered on our last visit was frozen solid, and I was able to find a sheltered spot out of the wind.  Shortly after setting up, the contacts came rolling in and I quickly filled a page in my log without too much effort.

For today's activation of Plinlimon, Andy, (GW7RKC)and myself, Mal (GW6OVD) met up around 9.00 for the hour and a half drive to our starting point. 

As we arrived there wasn't a cloud in the sky, and just a light breeze, what a great day for walking!

Plenty of parking at our start point SN797-840 just off the A44 but there is a charge of £3.00 for the day.

From the car park go through the farm yard, past the scary dogs through the gate marked "All walks" and follow the rough road for a couple of K

Although it was a beautiful  sunny day there were plenty of signs along the way that winter hadn't quite finished with us yet.

At one point our path was crossed by a baby badger, no bigger than a cat.

When we reached SN794-856 we left the road and headed NW up the path towards the summit.  The path is still a little vague in places but better than our last visit in 2012

A very good VHF site with contacts as far as Northern Ireland and well into the Pennines on FM
