Summit Information for GW/SW-023

Allt yr Esgair - 393m, 1 point

Association: Wales  Region: South Wales
Latitude: 51 54 37 N, Longitude: 3 16 19 W
Grid Reference: SO 126243, QTH Locator: IO81IV

GW/SW-023

Plenty of parking at the village hall (SO122-256) for this one, and there is a well defined path rising steadily to the summit, but be warned, at this time of year it is very muddy and slippery.
At the summit there is plenty of room for antennas and a nice little bench to operate from.  Good views of the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains but the take off on VHF is not the best.

10th November 2012

Summit Information for GW/SW-016

Ysgyryd Fawr - 486m, 1 point

Association: Wales  Region: South Wales
Latitude: 51 51 29 N, Longitude: 2 58 22 W
Grid Reference: SO 331182, QTH Locator: IO81MU

At our starting point at SO328-163 there is ample parking for 8-10 cars, but this summit is very popular with walkers so arrive early.
There is a good path which rises steeply through the woods and most of the 260mtr assent is done in the first kilometer or so.  There are a couple of well placed benches along this route should you need a rest.
As you emerge from the woods its not long before you can start to appreciate the incredible views that make this summit one of the most enjoyable we have visited.
The gradient becomes lees steep from here and soon  the summit was in sight.
We couldn't have picked a better day for this one, just a light breeze, warm sunshine and excellent visibility.
We found that the summit had a good VHF takeoff and we soon completed our activation and were packing up to move on to our second summit of the day GW/SW-020.

A great day and a well earned 1 point!
